Alfonso Calera Belmonte is the Director of the Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems Section of the Regional Development Institute. He is a Doctor in Physical Sciences, Professor of Physics at the ETS Agrónomos y Montes of the University of Castilla-La Mancha. The main line of research of Prof. Alfonso Calera is the Observation of the Earth applied to the temporal monitoring of the vegetal cover, crops and natural vegetation. He develops basic research for the estimation of the transpiration of the vegetation cover and the accumulation of biomass by means of parameters derived from multisensor time series. This research is transferred to operational applications in two large areas: (1) differential agronomic management of water, nutrients and harvest estimation, capturing intra-parcel variability, and (2) the realization of crop maps and water balances in large areas using said series of images. In parallel, he works on the development of webSIG ??technologies that allow the accessibility and analysis of space-time information to end users. He publishes regularly in SCI magazines, editor of several books, manuals, and numerous conference contributions.
