He is a chemical engineer, specialist in food science and physics, PhD in chemistry, senior researcher (Minciencias-Col) and the director of the Food-Fruit research group. He is a full professor and director of the Institute of Biotechnology and Agroindustry of the National University of Colombia. In the last five years he has participated and lidered several R & D projects funded by private and public organizations. He is/was the leader of the following projects: "Andean Fruit Productivity and Competitiveness * (2017-2021), Platform model for the integral use, value addition and competitiveness of commercial fruit trees in the Andean region (2014-2017), audit of the project “Development of scientific and technological capacities in biotechnology applied to the sectors of health and agro-industry in the department of Risaralda” (2014-2020). He was the principal researcher in the projects “Effect of three production processes on the quality and shelf life of avocado paste” (2017-2018); “Technological surveillance study on methods for postharvest treatments (fermentation and drying) of cocoa” (2018); “Technological surveillance on uses of cocoa butter in sectors different than chocolate (2017); “Technological surveillance study of the content of cadmium (Cd) in cocoa products” (2016); . Technological innovation of process and product in Industrias Alimenticias La Gloria” (2014-2016) , and “Study of Innovative Alternatives for the Production of Fruit Bars” (2012-2014).
He is/was co-researcher in the following projects: “Business and innovation competencies for economic development and productive inclusion of the regions affected by the Colombian conflict” (2018-2022). “Implementation and training in the use of solar dehydrators to empower women in rural areas in the post-conflict context” (2018-2019); “Improvement of the resilience of family farming in the Andean area of Colombia in the face of climate change through localized irrigation” (2017-2019).
