Entomology Agroecology

Biography

Agricultural engineer with a PhD in Agricultural Entomology and a Diploma in Agroecology of Arid Zones. He was president of the Chilean Society of Entomology for the periods 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 by acclamation. During his career at the Agricultural Research Institute (INIA), Intihuasi Regional Center, Northern Macrozone, located in La Serena, Coquimbo Region, Dr. Salas stood out as a researcher in Agricultural Entomology from 2003 to 2023. During this time, he also served as Regional Director of INIA Intihuasi, Northern Macrozone, from April 2022 to December 2023. Since February 2024, he has been working as Deputy Director of Research and researcher at INIA Remehue, Los Lagos Region. In addition, Dr. Salas is an active member of various national and international organizations, including the International Organisation for Biological Control (IOBC), the Collaborative Research Network on Diseases in Agricultural Workers (Riplag), and the Chilean Society of Entomology. He is the author of numerous scientific and popular articles, as well as chapters in national and international books in the field of Integrated Pest Management, with a special focus on conservation biological control. He has participated in at least twenty research projects, establishing himself as a prominent figure in the field of agricultural entomology both nationally and internationally.
