Biography

Andres Berger holds a PhD and MSc in Crop and Soil Sciences (2006 and 2009) from Cornell University (USA) and a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Faculty of Agronomy, UDELAR, Uruguay (1999). His career began as a lecturer at the Faculty of Agronomy – UDELAR (2000-2003) and continued as a researcher in Crop Ecophysiology and Management at INIA (2009-present). Throughout his career, he has contributed to the field of crop ecophysiology and management, advancing understanding of the key factors contributing to yield formation in wheat and soybean, as well as refining management practices to help reduce yield gaps. In wheat, he has worked on optimizing management practices for high-potential conditions, including nitrogen management and the development of new decision models. Through simulation models, he has contributed to the AGMIP Wheat project, assessing the impact of climate change on wheat yield and evaluating new traits for mitigation. He is a Level I member of Uruguay’s National Researchers System (SNI). He is also part of the Graduate School of FAGRO-UDELAR and has supervised multiple undergraduate (>10) and graduate (>5) theses, contributing to the training of new professionals and researchers.
