Biography

Federico Bizzozero is currently an Associate Researcher at the SARAS Institute, coordinator of components for the Sustainable Productive Transitions Project (FPTA 384, 2023-2027), Executive Secretary of the Uruguayan Center for Appropriate Technologies, and coordinates the Agroecology and Training programs. He teaches in the agronomic engineering and forest technician programs at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University of the Empresa (2024-).

He has been appointed as a national consultant for the United Nations Development Programme (2019-2021), the National Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (2020-2022), and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, focusing on sustainable production and agroecology. He has served as coordinator of the agroecology network (2011) and as a delegate to international networks on issues related to climate change, sustainability, development impacts, and human and environmental rights. He has coordinated Agroecology and CEUTA training programs since 2012. He has taught organic gardening and agroecological horticulture to various audiences and levels since 2004, and has also been involved in the CEUTA-UCLAEH advanced courses diploma (2020-2023).

Federico has coordinated 18 local development projects with a systemic approach to agroecological transition (2003-2024). The topics covered include participatory research, co-innovation and agroecological production, integrated watershed management at different scales, transition of agri-food systems, policies for ecological transition, integration, implementation and evaluation of the Rio Conventions at national and territorial levels, climate change, and the agri-food sector. He has also researched and developed the implementation of agroecological practices such as green manures, agroecological seeds, agroforestry systems, native fruits, and urban agriculture. He is a self-taught researcher.

He has published 8 books, various pamphlets, and specialized press articles. He has worked as a field technician in agroecology and organic agriculture in both rural and urban settings.

He is the father of four children, in a relationship with his life partner, and they live together on the coast of Uruguay, in the peaceful area of Neptunia.
