Biography

Fredy Enrique Segura Quijano is a professor and Researcher at the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá (Colombia), Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He is a Researcher in the Microelectronics Center Group of the Universidad de los Andes CMUA (classification A1-Minciencias - highest classification Ministry of Education). He is an Electrical Engineer (2000) with a Master of Electronic and Computer Engineering (2001) degree with honors in recognition of academic and personal qualities) from the Universidad de los Andes (Colombia). Virtual Master in Convergent Technologies (micro, nano, and bio) (2008), Diploma of advanced studies, Master in initiation to research (honors) (2007), and Doctor (Excellent Cum Laude) from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain) with depth in the area of microelectronics (2010). From 2005 to 2009, he was a scholar in the Universidad de los Andes faculty development program to do his PhD studies. From 2005 to 2007, he worked at the National Center for Microelectronics CSIC-CNM in Barcelona, Spain, with a post-graduate scholarship in biomedical applications. In 2005, at the CSIC-CNM, he carried out integrated circuit design tasks. In 2006 and 2007, at the CSIC-CNM, he developed the laboratory environment for the electrical characterization of the developed integrated circuit. Since 2010 until now, he has worked as a professor at the Universidad de los Andes. In 2014, he was classified as an Associate Professor. In 2018, he completed a stay within the "Postdoctoral Short Stay Program" framework at the Universitat Antònoma de Barcelona (Spain) through a scholarship from the Carolina Foundation. Her research activities have focused on designing and implementing passive sensors and using embedded platforms to implement systems with special energy consumption requirements and computational restrictions. He works on tinyML-type technologies to implement machine learning algorithms on low-performance processors. He directed two doctoral theses, over 24 master's, and several undergraduate students. He is currently a Senior researcher in the Minciencias (Colombia Ministry of Education) classification. He is the author of more than 15 articles in refereed magazines, more than 20 articles in conferences, and participated in 3 innovation patents already granted.
