Since 2003, he has been a full-time Principal Research Professor at the National Agrarian University La Molina.He has also been a part-time professor at the Universidad Científica del Sur since 2011. From 2013 to 2015, he was elected as a member of the International Technical Panel on Soils (ITPS) with the FAO. From 2008 to 2015, he served as the Manager of the Research and Capacity Development Program of the VLIR-UNALM Project with the Flemish Universities of Belgium. From March 2000 to December 2002, he was the Principal Scientist and Coordinator of the Ecosystem Processes and Management Program in Latin America at the World Agroforestry Centre, based in Peru, focusing on carbon sequestration and nutrient cycling research. From January 1998 to April 2000, he served as the Principal Scientist and Interim Regional Coordinator for Latin America, where he developed a strategic work plan and fundraising with national and international counterparts (NARs, NGOs, and other CGIAR centers). From January 1993 to December 1997, he was the Principal Scientist and Coordinator of the Ecosystem Processes and Management Program in Latin America at the World Agroforestry Centre, based in Peru. He initiated and guided the Alternatives to Regional Coordination of research and development activities in Latin America with the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry. He developed physical, chemical, and biological soil indicators for sustainable management in rain-fed agricultural systems for efficient water use. He has advised private companies on environmental aspects and the rehabilitation of degraded lands and improving water quality. He has implemented (with multidisciplinary national and international counterparts) research projects on sustainable natural resource management in the humid tropics of Peru (highlands, lowlands, and mountains), Brazil, and Mexico. Additionally, he has provided technical assistance for the planning, monitoring, and evaluation of research and development programs in Peru, Brazil, and Mexico.
