Silvana Inés Giancola, born in Argentina, is an Agronomist specializing in agricultural production, having graduated in 1986 from the Faculty of Agronomy at the University of Buenos Aires. She earned a Master’s degree from the University of Buenos Aires in Agricultural Economics in 2003. Since 2008, she has been part of the research team at INTA’s Center for Research in Economics and Foresight. Her work focuses on socio-economic studies of sustainable technology adoption, with extensive experience in coordinating interdisciplinary, inter-institutional, and territorially focused research teams. She has over 60 published works on this subject.
She is Project Leader of the FONTAGRO project (2018 Call) ATN/RF-17232-RG “Sustainable control of the Citrus Greening in Family Farming (AF) in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia.” She coordinates INTA’s structural project “Sustainable intensification of fruit chains” (INTA 2019 project portfolio) and previously coordinated the national project of INTA’s National Fruit Program, “Overcoming technological gaps affecting quality in fruit chains” (INTA 2013 project portfolio). She also coordinated the national project in INTA’s Strategic Area of Economics and Sociology, “Intervention strategies to improve access to technology in the production sector” (INTA 2009 project portfolio).
Among other activities, she stands out for her sports achievements as a member of the Argentine national fencing team from 1978 to 1988. She represented Argentina in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, was the South American Champion in 1982, and won the Silver Olimpia Award in 1982. Additionally, she has been a certified sail and motor skipper since 2017.
